Which Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C size do I need?

Choosing the right Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C set depends on the area you’re treating, the wood and its preparation. At Hoeys DIY, you can choose from 130ml, 390ml and 1.3L sets for projects ranging from small furniture pieces to interior wooden floors.

Compare sizes and coverage

The manufacturer’s indicative coverage is 30–50 m² per litre. Based on that guidance:

  • 130ml: approximately 3.9–6.5 m². A compact option for smaller furniture pieces and individual projects.
  • 390ml: approximately 11.7–19.5 m². Consider this size for larger furniture, tabletops or projects involving several pieces.
  • 1.3L: approximately 39–65 m². A larger option for interior wooden floors and projects requiring more coverage.

These figures are estimates, not guaranteed coverage. Wood type, sanding and preparation affect how much oil you need. Measure the surfaces you intend to treat, including edges and undersides where relevant, and test on matching wood before deciding on the quantity.

Does “2C” mean two coats?

No. “2C” means two components: Oil Plus component A and accelerator component B. Oil Plus 2C colours and protects interior wood in one coat when applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Mix the components at approximately three parts A to one part B, following the technical sheet. Use the mixed product within 4–6 hours, and mix only the quantity you can apply within that time.

Test your colour before starting

The same Rubio colour can look different on different woods. Sanding and preparation also influence the result, so a colour chart should be a starting point rather than a guarantee.

Test your chosen colour on the same wood, prepared in the same way as your project. Assess the sample before treating the full surface.

Allow time for drying and curing

Drying and full curing are different stages. Oil Plus 2C has a drying time of approximately 12–24 hours and reaches full cure after five days.

Wait at least two days before dry cleaning and five days before cleaning with water and recommended Rubio Monocoat cleaning products. Plan your project around these timings and follow the technical sheet’s instructions for use during curing.

Apply a small quantity and remove the excess

Prepare the wood and apply the oil according to the technical sheet. Remove all excess oil within 30 minutes, leaving the surface non-sticky. For floors, work in manageable zones so each area can be completed within that window.

Oil-soaked cloths and tools may spontaneously combust. Immerse them in water after use before disposal, following the manufacturer’s safety instructions.
